Nail polish is a type of paint, so that you might find more information if you 
search for "paint" in general rather than "nail polish".

The ingredients are likely to be a trade secret, but if you look into what makes 
paint last longer in general (in particular, what makes it chip-resistant) that 
should help you. I suggest that you first find out what are the purposes of the 
various ingredients in a generic "paint", especially "oil-based paint" or 
"solvent-based paint."
