My girlfriend is 16 and has cystic fibrosis. She recieved a double lung
transplant and is now immunosuppressed to avoid rejection. It occured to me
that being immunosuppressed is probably a lot like having the human
immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Can you tell me, if any, what the difference
is. Also, with cystic fibrosis, is the lung transplant, if rejection and
infection do not occur, likely to extend her life to a normal human life
span? Or is she already on "borrowed time"?

P.S. I've done quite a bit of research and all sites seem to avoid the
question of life span.
