Ken,

     Try this website first which shows how to melt down soaps made from 
vegetable oils: http://home.earthlink.net/~watersprite/rebatch.html.  If 
this does not provide the info you seek, or is not successful, then go to 
www.colebrothers.com/soap/ for a 
synopsis of how soap is made; essentially you are taking acids and reacting 
them with bases.  This is a basic chemical reaction type: 
acid + base ---> salt + water.  You are essentially making salt.  I am not 
certain that the reaction is reversible but if it is, try acidifying the soap 
by placing the pieces into vinegar (acetic acid) for instance...
