Thanks for your question about the IBM 3174. I checked with some of the people who built the device and they tell me the following.

If by the word HUB, you mean the common term for a device which would allow you to connect up several other devices to form a LAN, then yes, certain 3174 models will connect up to certain hubs, provided that:

  • The 3174 has the proper adapter to support the necessary cabling, such as ethernet, token ring and fiber optics.
  • The 3174 supports the necessary communications protocol, such as TCP/IP or frame relay.
  • However, since there are variations in all of these, it would be best to check the specifics in the publications about the device. You can check the online library for the 3174. In it you will find links to other publications, many of which are also on-line. They give the specifics.

    Also there is a support page including an on-line forum for the 3174 which you can use to ask further questions about this device.
