(category: acoustics AND audiology/physiology) Can a "tone deaf" individual, 
one who cannot distinguish differences in pitch, detect the difference between 
instruments (such as clarinet vs. oboe), which depends on hearing overtones.  
Student keeps asking in my music classroom...
