Hi! Well, I had no idea either, so I tried searching for mp3 player source on Google. From there I tried the Freeamp site. Freeamp turns out to be an open source project under the GNU public license, so you can read the source to your heart's content. That's probably as good a way as any to learn how the music format decoders work. You can download the source and pre-built Windows and Linux executables here. The FAQ says to look in the subdirectory lmc/xingmp3 in the source tree to find the MP3 decoder code.
