Chiropractic physicians use manipulation for management of problems. I
am not terribly well informed on this matter. Perhaps they gave this
question to a medical doctor because there are not any Mad Scientist
Doctors of Chiropractic. You may want to consult other
sources as well.

Although chiropractitioners used to restrict themselves to
manipulation, there is a group of practitioners known informally as
"mixers" who use nutritional theories and may do blood testing for
diagnosis. Historically there has been quite a bit of rivalry and
suspicion between medical practitioners and chiropracters.
This is the American Chiropractic site: http://www.amerchiro.org/

Osteopathic physicians have a training that is quite similar to medical
doctors. At one time their practice included quite a bit of manipulative
techniques, but my understanding is that the amount of manipulative
treatements by osteopathic physicians has decreased in recent decades.
