In "Martian Rainbow" Robert L. Forward depicts a satelite that can read a book 
from orbit. It works by using photoreceptors which absorb light in phase and 
then computationally simulating a lens. Is this how digital cameras work? What 
does the math look like? What books talk about this subject?
