Dear Stephen, Fusion of two atoms consist in the formation of a new nucleus from the constituents of the nuclei of the two atoms fusing. The extra matter (neutrons and/or protons) plus energy is released. For instance, two atoms of hydrogen, one with one proton and one neutron (called deuterium), and one with one proton and two neutrons (called tritium), can fuse to yield an atom of helium (two protons and two neutrons) plus one free neutron plus energy!...
