Hi Kris,

It is possible that starchy and sugary food gets fermented in your body
and will produce alcohol. Note : this will not happen to everyone. So a
small percentage of the baby's whose mother is eating a lot of sugar (and
starchy food) are exposed to alcohol. To my opinion this amount of
alcohol is too low to make a baby really addicted. But there might be a
couple of cases in witch this happens.

To answer your second question, yes baby's can be born addicted to
caffeine. As caffeine can pass the blood-brain barrier it will also pas
the placenta (mother vs. baby) barrier, and can therefore induce
habituation and dependence. So it is wise to moderate the intake of this
kind of substances when you are pregnant.

Greetings

Dave
