The question asks if photons and phonons can interact to produce a summation of energy enough to trigger quantum level changes in substances such as semiconductors. If it is known that this is possible, the different speeds of transmission of em and sound energy could be used in various applications. In particular, I am interested to know if monochromatic radiation could interact with a broadband pulse of sonic radiation to stimulate broadband absorbsion of radiation in any known substance.
