Scientists have measured the taste bud density of volunteers. They found that a
person who is an "average taster" has about 184 taste buds per square
centimeter of tongue - now that's a lot of tasting - but some people
are "supertasters" with 425 buds per sq.cm. whereas those called "non-tasters"
average just 96 buds per sq.cm.

http://www.fi.edu/qa97/me12/me12.html This is the site I found this info on.
I want to know how many people can clearly taste foods and how many need the
pepper to taste the foods. I have only known a few people who have to have it
to taste the food. The school cook insists there are more non-tasters (people
who need strong flavors) than tasters. I insist it is the opposite. Any
records anywhere?
