Scientists of all sorts use statistics and think about probability all the
time. Physicists, for example, have developed many methods in statistics.
Medical scientists use statisitics to determine the association of diseases with
human genes. They also use it to decide if the results of experiments are
trustworthy. Meteorologists express their predictions in statistical terms such
as 70% chance of rain. When experiments are performed repeatedly, the results
can be analyzed to see if they get answers that are close enough together to be
trusted.

Go to Google: http://www.google.com/ and type in the name of a branch of science
and the word: statistics. Biology, physics, medincine, forestry, meteorology,
geology, engineering, computer science,.... you name the science, and statistics
is used in it. You will get hundreds of links to web sites that describe the
vlaue of statisics in science. My personal opinion is that schools should teach
statistics more and trigonometry less. No one uses trigonometry (well, almost no
one, anyway) but everyone needs to reason about probability almost everyday.
