It is known that the root of carrot is a rich source of carotene. But why does 
the plant store so much of it in the root? Being in soil, the carotene cannot 
assist photosynthesis as it does in the leaves. Moreover, there is no point 
for the root to be too eye-catching with orange colour --- animals will eat 
them!
