Subject: How often can an item be encased and reduced to size of original item?

You have an item (e.g. lead fishing weight) You compress it by some means to 
its absolute smallest size. Wrap it in another lead weight and compress to size 
of 1st weight. Wrap in 3rd weight & compress again to size of 1st weight. Can 
this be done (theoretically) ad infinitum? Or would the force used for 
compression eventually cause some kind of counter reaction?
