Yes, all soot contains polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons which are carcinogenic. 
But more importantly, burning anything produces quantities of carbon dioxide 
(which can suffocate you) and carbon monoxide (which is deadly in moderately 
large quantities). That's why you don't want to cook indoors over an 
inefficient heat source like charcoal. LPG or natural gas, on the other hand, 
burns so efficiently (in well-designed burners) that it produces relatively 
little harmful gas, and no soot at all, for the amount of heat produced.
