MadSci Network: Virology |
Dear Sir or Madam, Thank you for your time of reading this. I have a few questions on the subject of Virology. As a 10th grade AP (Advanced Placement) student, I have become fascinated by the field of Virology and Immunology. One of my first questions would be: What is a good college to go to where I could obtain a Ph.D. in Virology or a Ph.D. in another area of study that will enable me to acheive my goal of becoming a research Virologist? In addition, if you could please supply me with some suggestions for books to read on Viruses, I would be very grateful. I have read "The Hot Zone" and "The Demon in the Freezer" along with "Virus Hunter" and "Biohazard". Those were absolutely fantastic books and I am interested in some other books. Books on Filoviruses such as Ebola and Marburg or Arenaviruses such as Lassa are interesting to me also. I recently completed my AP Biology I and II course and got a 5 (top score) on the AP Exam and since then I have decided I wanted to go into medical research, specifically, Virology. I am also curious about a career at USAMRIID, what are some suggestions for courses I should take in college to get a career there? Thank you for your time, Stephen R.
