It is not clear to me why your instructor would say this.  It is true that 
that the independent variable is on the dependent axis.  But this does 
not invalidate the usefulness of this plot.  This is simply a 
transformation of a group of plots used for enzyme kinetics.  It is 
really no different from Linneweaver-Burke or the others.  Values for 
Km and Vmax can still be derived.  The Hanes Wolf plots are very 
popular for simple kinetics.
