Hi Shehnaz, there's actually a simple test. What you need to do is to dissolve the green iron portion in a strong acid. The iron will react with the acid to form a purple color. The higher the iron content, the deeper the color will be. There are also iron test kits available in chemistry labs or from the internet. One such a kit contains bipyridyl which is a ferrous iron indicator.

By the way,the professionals use very sophisticated equipment such as an atomic absorption spectrophotometer.
