Hi!
Tears are secretions from the lacrymal glands of the eye to keep the eye
wet so that it is free from germs like bacteria. It is believed that in
our ancestors the lacrymal glands were used to excrete excess amounts of
salts from our body much like sebacious glands under the skin do.
As you must have noticed that we sometimes get cold and hot prespiration,
it is believed (atleast in theory) that the reasons in case of tears is no
different. The reasons are as follows.
1. Temperature of the surroundings and your body (your body temperature
differs when you have a fever and there is a very slight variation in the
normal body temperatures among people in different climatic zones).
2. Humidity of the surroundings.
3. Psychological conditions (suppose when you are scared or feeling very
deep emotions like loss of some body you loved dearly, then hot tears come
out. It is interesting to note here that crying due to emotions is only
found in humans, though many believe that dogs, wolves and other animals
also cry due to emotions but no specific proof has been found yet).

Well that all and I am sorry for the late reply, I was having a very busy
time.

From,
Abhishek Dey Das.
