Embryo research refers to any work on the early development of animals, whether
worms or flies
or human beings. I think you probably meant to ask about embryonic stem cells
(ES). These are
cells that are found in very, very young embryos when there are only a few
hundred cells. ES cells
are able to give rise to all the different cells of the body. There is a strong
possibility that human
ES cells could be used to replace cells that die in diseases like Parkinsons
Disease or Alzheimer's
Disease. But, as you may know, making human ES cells is very controversial,
especially in the
USA.

I'm afraid that they won't be any help with extinct animals. Once an animal is
extinct, that's it -
no more animal. It is why it is important not to let any organism go extinct -
it will never, ever
exist again.
