As sad as it sounds, I would suspect that something bad did happen.  I 
have never heard of a parent moving a baby before it was able to
fly.  Where would they move to?  There certainly isn't enough free time
to build a second nest.  Don't worry too much though, Cardinals generally
have two broods per year.  Since it's still early in the season, they 
probably still have another chance at becoming parents this year.
