MadSci Network: Biochemistry |
I was reading on the internet about a possible Jack The Ripper suspect called James Maybrick. On this website, http://www.casebook.org/suspects/james_maybrick/maybrick.html ... it stated he was addicted to arsenic. It also says people were frequently addicted to arsenic and stryrchnine in Victorian times. It sounds fascinating and I'd like to hear more about this odd subject. Is it that people took it for "lustrous eyes, whiter skin, increased virility" then couldn't stop? Wouldn't this kill you before you became addicted? Is anyone addicted to arsenic in modern times? Wow...
