Hay,

Its bad to bite your fingernails ... because first of all you are taking 
bacterias and gems in your mouth which are present on your fingers and 
your finger nails. Secondly, the important thing, from dentist's point of 
view, your are biting a hard thing from your teeth, which in turn will 
result in attrition of your teeth. Althought this is a very slow 
procedure, but one should take good care of it.
And if you are having any habit of such type like biting nails, pencils or 
anything you should also try to quit this habbit
