Ovoviviparous are beings in which fertilized eggs develop within the female (unlike oviparous), and the embryo gains no nutritional substances from the female (unlike viviparous). It occurs in some invertebrates, fishes, and reptiles. Humans, like nearly all mammals, are viviparous because the baby receives nutrition from the mother. -Marcy LaViollette Definition from: http://www.tiscali.co.uk/reference/encyclopaedia/hutchinson/m0006853.html
