Message:

Neurons in the adult human central nervous system and heart muscle cells are 
postmitotic. In other words, they remain in interphase. By contrast, cells 
lining the opening (lumen) of the small intestine divide frequently. Why 
damage to the former (brain in stroke, and heart in heart attack) is so 
dangerous. What do you think might happen to tissues like the intestinal 
lining if some disorder or drug blocked mitoses in all cells of the body?
