For my science project I wanted to determine the effect on the germination of
Kentucky Wonder Bean seeds when they were watered with Sam's Diet Cola,
Distilled Water, Softened Tap Water, Skim Milk, apple Juice, Sugar Free Grape
Kool-Aid and Seven up. I used Jiffy all in One greenhouse with peat pellets as
my enviroment. For each liquid I planted six seeds in three peat pellets and
expanded the pellets with 300 ml of liquid. Covered and watched, 1 cola
spouted on day 4. On day 7 spouted totals as follows: 3 cola, 2 distilled, 2
tap, and 1 Kool-aid. Day 9 - 6 cola, 3 distilled, 3 tap, 1 milk, 1 apple, 1
Kool-aid. Why did cola sprout first and 7up not at all? Mold grew on milk,
apple, kool-aid, and 7 up. After it quit growing on the peat pots on day 12
sprouts were 2 milk, 1 apple, and 1 koolaid. Day 12 others were 6 cola,6
distilled, 3 tap, 2 skim, 1 apple, and 1 koolaid. The only sprouts that looked
healthy were the cola, distilled and tap water. The others had poor color.
Did that water softener in the tap water cause only 3 seeds to sprout? Any
answers you can provide will be greatly appeciated.
thank you.
