MadSci Network: Genetics |
First, there are very few places that grant a degree called Genetic Engineering. If you wish to do research dealing with the manipulation of genetic material you would generally get a Ph.D. in Genetics or even Cell Biology. There are any number of schools in the United States and Texas where you can get a graduate degree in genetics. Generally when you are looking for a graduate school you need to be looking for someone doing work in your area of interest. Do you want to work with plants, animals, microorganisms,... ??. Of course, you'll be working with microorganisms no matter which organism you want to work with. When I was looking for a graduate school I looked at articles in my area of interest, noted the location of the authors, and contacted them in regards to working in their laboratories. I also found out where they graduated from and contacted those labs for possible places to obtain my degree. Many schools will not accept a student until a professor accepts responsibility of the student. It could be that even though you have all the qualifications for being accepted at a University you may not be accepted if there is no space for you in a lab. If you know of anyone already working in a lab in your area of interest you may ask them for their recommendations. Since you would like to attend a school in Texas I would try an Internet search such as: university > Texas > genetics > engineering Texas Universities > genetics > graduate degrees genetics > Texas > graduate degrees You may want to try the following sites. These are just a few sites to get you started. There are many more schools in Texas you can try. Good luck on your search. http://programs.gradschools.com/southcentral/genetics.html http://gene.tamu.edu/?pid=567 http://www.unt.edu/pais/grad/gbiol.htm http://www.utdallas.edu/dept/graddean/cat2004/NSM/Biology.htm http://www.gradprofiles.com/rice-biochemistry.html
