Subject: Why is sand hot on some beaches but not others?

I recently went with my family to Cancun.  Even though there was bright hot 
sunlight, the sand was not hot at all.  The peopel at our hotel said the sand 
is never hot in Cancun.  But when I go to other beaches in Connecticut or New 
York or on the east coast, the sand is always hot and burns my feet when I walk 
on it. I do not understand why there is a difference.
