Francly speaking one time I said to my students that names of monosaccharides 
come from their physical properties or places of their occuring, and than I 
was not sure. From this moment I am just interested who and why introduced 
names like idose or altrose and many other. Unfortunatelu I couldn't find it 
anywhere.
