I'm just trying to figure out why my hand felt much colder when I placed it in the ice water with salt (I see my mother do this alot)compared to when I placed it in the regular ice water. What happens inside the water with the salt that cause it to get colder. My mom also puts salt in her boiling water and it boils harder for a few seconds and stop. She says that this makes her water hotter. How can this be true for the both (to make water colder if used with ice; or hotter if being cooked)?
Re: what causes salt to make the tempture of ice water even colder?
