Dental hygienists complete at least two years of college for an associate's degree in dental hygiene, but there are also four-year programs that give a bachelor's degree and five-year programs that give a master's degree.

After graduating, a hygienist also has to pass licensing exams just like many other professionals, such as nurses and dentists, have to pass in order to practice.

The American Dental Hygienists' Association has a lot of information about educationl licensure and practice at their website ( http://www.adha.org/careerinfo/index.html) which includes a listing of every accredited dental hygienist program in the US.

I hope this has been helpful!
