The Firefly in both adult form and the larvae form eat other insects, snails and earthworms.

Some of them even eat other fireflies! The larvae of the firefly are called glow worms and also are predators.

The firefly uses it's flash to find it's mate.

They are beautiful to look at but hard to keep as pets so I suggest that you release it soon or it will die. Another suggestion is that you keep it in a jar, enjoy it till you fall asleep. Your mom or dad can then put it outside so it can go on it's merry way and find a mate and make more fireflies to enjoy another summer.
