Dear Phil,
It is a very interesting question. This idea of using cancer antigens in
order to elicit an increased immunological reactivity against tumors is
being developed already in clinical trials with different strategies. One
of the most promising is the vaccination with Dendritic cells. Dendritic
cells are a special kind of cell which are capable of a strong activation
of T Cells, which in turn perform a set of actions that will lead to tumor
destruction. There many studies going on, a very interesting example is
the below, developed in the São Paulo University, here in Brazil.

Barbuto JA, Ensina LF, Neves AR, Bergami-Santos P, Leite KR, Marques R,
Costa F, Martins SC, Camara-Lopes LH, Buzaid AC.
Dendritic cell-tumor cell hybrid vaccination for metastatic cancer.
Cancer Immunol Immunother. 2004 Dec;53(12):1111-8.

That's a very interesting and complex issue, I hope this can lead you to
go deeper in this subject. Don't hesitate in asking more.
Best regards,
VItor
