By taking note of how far apart our solar system's celestial objects are, it seems an accurate 2-dimensional map can be drawn. Space is endless, but do the directions up and down exist in space? Is space on a horizontal plane, or does it stretch out in all directions? Is it that we occupy only a small dot in space and the void between solar systems and even galaxies is so wide that up and down doesn't matter? But looking at our galaxy shape, some sense of vertical direction must exist. It popped in my head one day, and I've never been able to find an answer for this question. Please answer!
