While I'm aware of the issues involved in general purpose multi-processor
computing, I cannot answer questions concerning individual software
packages and software.

Assuming that you haven't purchased the computer yet, I'd advise you to do
one or preferably both of the following.

(i) Contact the software house that developed and/or sells the software you
are interested in. Ask for their recommendations concerning computer hardware.

(ii) Subscribe to one or preferably more user groups for the software
package(s) you intend to use and ask what multi-processing hardware other
people are using. If possible find someone who has had success using
hardware of the same or similar specs to what they have, and then buy
hardware absolutely identical to what they have.

It could be that you don't need to worry that much, and pretty well any SMB
hardware will work. But, it's often better to be safe than sorry.

Cheers,

Ross Clement.
