Subject: How come delicate toadstools manage to break up the ground?

I have observed that mushrooms are very delicate and some cannot even be picked 
up between fingers without breaking. But these things manage to break out of 
the ground leaving cracks on the caked mud. Should they not be breaking up 
while pushing out of the mud?
