My answers to your question are more opinions than answers, and they're also based on assumptions. For instance, I'm assuming that your child's school doesn't have or isn't equipped to do special education of the sort you're looking for. If so, why not be proactive and start a parents' group for other kids like yours?

Investigate your local museum or science centers -- do they have programs? Can you hire tutors? I believe a child as young as yours has a lot of skills that should be encouraged and nurtured. What about art? or music? If inquisitiveness and curiosity are the basis of your son's temperment then these can be cultivated in other areas, not just science.

Many scientists are talented musicians, artists, and writers. It's the curiosity that drives them, the passion to discover. If you encourage this by providing multiple outlets then your son can choose his own path. Science camp or something that lets him interact with other kids his age with his interests would be good. Try looking online, there may be groups out there already.
