Usually the little disc containing the radioactive material is quite
secure, and unless you applied a file to it or scratched away at it, the
chances that you actually got contaminated are small.  

But, let's suppose that you actually did manage to break through.  Will you
get any kind of cancer or disease?  That's harder to say.  There is still a
lot of debate in the radiation safety community about how much is too much
exposure.  Most smoke detectors contain a very little amount of
radioactivity, and usually pose very little health hazard.

So, how do you achieve peace of mind?  You probably won't be happy until
someone comes to your house with a geiger counter and conducts a survey. 
Your best resource for that will be a local university.  Contact their
safety and health department and explain your situation.  They should be
able to assist you.
