We learned in advanced biology about animal segments and layers in development.
But how did animals like centipedes and everything evolve to have so many
segments and how does each kind of animal know how many segments its supposed to
have?

Also, why do millipedes have more body segments than centipedes and what 
selections did they have to live through to give them more?
