In cold winter climates, some greenhouse growers heat irrigation water before
applying it to plants. To do a simple experiment on the effect of irrigation
water temperature on plants, get ten potted plants or seedlings that are all
about the same size. Irrigate five of the plants with room temperature water and
five with ice water. Give all the plants the same environment including light
level, fertilizer, soil type, etc. Having five plants for each temperature
treatment provides replication.

Record changes in plant appearance and height. After several weeks of growth,
measure the fresh weight of the plant shoots if possible. Also count the number
of leaves and number of flowers, if any. Take averages of all your measurements
and graph the data. It would also be worthwhile to use a scientific calculator
to calculate a standard deviation to see how variable the plants in each
treatment are.

Your hypothesis is based on your question and is just your educated guess for
what you expect the results to be. It is not important that you guess right.
