How do organisms choose how to interpret their genetic codes ? I'm not a
biology major but I do know that organisms have a genetic code based on
triplets of bases (AAA, ATG, etc)and that the vast majority of organisms
interpret these triplets to code for certain amino acids but that an
exceedingly small number of microorganims choose to interpret a few of the
same triplets as coding for a different amino acid. How does a cell choose how
to interpret a given triplet ? I know that our own mitochondria (as well as
chloroplasts in plant cells) are among these few exceptions. Thanks !
