Air as you would be aware is mostly nitrogen secondly oxygen, and in 
small quantity other gases. Now plant cells during day give off oxygen in 
the process of photosynthesis.  All cells give off carbon dioxide in the 
process of respiration,release mechanisms may vary.  Carbon dioxide is a 
minor constituent of air.

In all it woild not be wrong to say cells give off air.
