Astrobiology is an emerging field of scientific research, combining
aspects of biology, geology and astronomy. It is often defined as: the
study of the origin, evolution and distribution of life in the universe.
These are big questions!
Some examples of astrobiology research are:
- How did life emerge on Earth?
- What are the most extreme environments that life can tolerate?
- Is there life elsewhere in the universe and how can we detect it?
- Might there be microbial life elsewhere in our solar system,
e.g. on Mars?
There are lots of great astrobiology resources on the WWW - just try astrobiology in
Google or any search engine. Here are some to get you started:
