I teach Cosmetology. I am trying to understand what a lanthionine bond is. I am teaching the science of chemically straightening the hair. The text we use says the bond results from introducing hydroxide ions (OH-) to the disulfide bonds of the hair structure. This process apparently removes one of the sulfur atoms from the hair. I want to know how this all works. I have searched the web, your site and consulted a physiology professor at our college to no avail.
