Specific heat of ice is about half that of liquid water. Usual symbol of specific heat is Cp. Ice also is a better (3 to 4 times) conductor of heat than still liquid water. Lower Cp means it takes amount of heat to change the temperature of ice by 1 degree as compared to water. Since ice is also a better conductor of heat, it distributes heat better than still liquid water.
