It is convenient to use plasmids for cloning purposes because of their 
small sizes and thus ease of transformation as compared to genomic DNA. 

However, it is to be noted that many large vectors are also frequently 
used for cloning libraries, for instance, BAC - bacterial artificial 
chromosomes.
