The short answer is, we are dealing with two kinds of moisture. Green wood is wet from the plant sap or internal metabolic fluids that were active in the plant as it grew. Much of this fluid is in the living cells. Water from laying out in the weather is mostly H2O.from the environment. Sap moisture requires much longer time to exit the wood.
