The genus ovis was first domesticated in the middle east circa 8000 BC. It would stand to reason that since they originated in the middle east they would share common ancestors with wild sheep/goats that inhabit that region. But you should also remember that as the domesticated stock was moved out of the middle east they would have intermingled with other wild species thus introducing new genetic material.

A simple Gooogle search for "Ovis Evolution" and "Ovis Domestication" will provide a great deal of information on this subject. Also you might contact the Agricultural Department of major universities if more information is desired.
