Tisha, http://siteresources.worldbank.org/INTDATASTA/64199955-1178226923002/21322619/LGDB2007.pdf this is the world bank's "Little Green Factbook" for 2007. It lists, country by country, various statistics on economy, agriculture, transportation, and energy usage. It also includes CO2 emissions. These are listed in the country tables as "CO2 emissions per capita." "Per capita" is Latin for "each head," meaning "per person." To get total CO2 emissions, multiply the CO2 emissions 'per capita' by the population (number of heads). Here are the numbers for a few of the largest emitting countries: USA: Population 296.4 million, CO2 emissions 19.9 metric tons per capita = 5,898,000,000,000,000 grams CO2 (2003 figures). This is 22% of the CO2 emissions for the entire globe. The US is roughly 5% of the total world population. Canada: Population 32.3 million, CO2 emissions 17.9 metric tons per capita = 578,000,000,000,000 grams CO2. This is less than 10% of what the USA produces. China: Population 1,304.5 million, CO2 emissions 3.2 metric tons per capita = 4,174,000,000,000,000 grams CO2 (2003). This is 70% of the USA emissions, even though emissions per person in China are 1/6 what they are in the USA.
